About: In 2021, the Mort Park Peace Mural came to life with the backing of USAA and the support of the Tampa Foundation. Led by international artist Brittany Ford and assisted by Prodigy® instructors and youth, this collaborative project aimed to inspire peace in the community following the civil unrest triggered by the tragic events of George Floyd’s murder.

As part of the Prodigy® Cultural Arts Program, students channeled their thoughts on societal challenges into the mural, expressing what they believed the world needed more of. The Peace mural at Mort Park & Community Center, an extension of the University Area CDC’s creative placemaking initiative, not only adds artistic flair to the University Area and nearby Mort Elementary School, but also serves as a meaningful contribution to fostering peace in the community.
